Life coaching can be defined as a series of conversations between a coach and a client aimed to improve the client's situation. The International Coach Federation defines it as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential". There are different specialties, from life coaching, to executive, career, relationship, business coaching and so on.Let me help you understand better what a life coach do (and doesn't do).
Consider a life coach your thinking and success partner. We will listen to you with the kind of attention and commitment that you rarely experience anywhere else. We will encourage you to be yourself, to expand beyond your limitations, to put aside fears and to forget about other people's expectations. During the coaching process, you will learn how to get what you really want, whether it is a specific goal or a lifestyle you want to create, by focusing and taking specific steps to more effective decisions and actions.
We focus on people and results. You might want to hire one if you want to make a life change or are in a transition, if you want help with specific work challenges, you feel stuck in some aspect of your life, etc. Life coaches are neither consultants nor therapists. We don't diagnose, treat, tell you what to do, or solve your problems for you. What we do is help you find your own solutions. Who better than you will know what your best solution is? We support you, challenge you, and motivate you to take action, so that you can get wherever you want to go. As Tom Landry (a well- known American football player and coach) once said: "A coach is someone who tells you what you don't want to hear, who has you see what you don't want to see, so you can be who you have always known you could be."
Changes doesn´t happen overnight, they depend on your commitment, willingness, and work.Your coach will ask you to be committed to the coaching process. To show up for sessions, keep any agreements you make during sessions, to be honest and open in the conversations. It's important to let your life coach know if something isn't working, if you have any concerns or problems or know why a problem is occurring. The power of coaching depends strongly on the level of honesty and trust between the coach and the coachee.
Working with a coach requires both a personal commitment and a financial commitment. Fees vary depending on the specialty and experience of the coach. Coaching is an investment in yourself and you should consider both the desired benefits and the time to be spent in coaching.
In a nutshell, A life coach offer support so that you can focus on what really is important to you, and take consistent action towards your goal, to make it happen once and for all.
