So you want to be a life coach.
If you have read the "About Life Coaching" section (if you havenīt check it out
here), you probably have all the information you need, and now you are wondering what to do next.
To date, there are no specific requirements or regulations to be a life coach. This means anyone can call himself a life coach, and start taking clients. Although this can be harmful for us (there must be untrained coaches out there damaging our reputation), coaching is a self-regulating profession focused on maintaining
high ethical standards. It is your decision to just start taking clients, or to pursue some training and even get certified (learn about certification
here). But the most important thing right now is to be sure that coaching is the right fit for you.
Coaching is not only a profession, but also a style of behavior. You can be a full time professional life coach, use coaching as an additional source of income, or apply your coaching skills to your current job. Decide what works best for you.
You donīt really need to make any radical changes to become a coach. Take advantage of your experiences, skills, and resources. Think of how to apply all those resources to your coaching. What professional experience do you have? Maybe you can help people with your same background. What about life experiences? Taking care of an elder, raising a family, being a small business owner. You name it.
Have you decided to become a professional life coach? Good for you!
Start by looking for proper coach training. Training is essential in positioning yourself as a professional.
